Consultation

Since late 2023 an extensive engagement programme has been undertaken, centred on securing feedback on how the area could be transformed.

Highlights include creating a youth guide with local school children and a tour guide to record the important history of the area. You can read more about the consultation below.

Young Person’s Guide to Beckton

During the spring term we ran 5 youth workshops with young people in the area, asking them how they use the area and what they would like to see in the new development. The workshops involved creative activities such as collaging, sketching, designing, writing Beckton postcards and mind maps.

Working with a local artist, we collected 62 contributions from local young people and created the Young Person’s Guide to Beckton which you can view below.

We’d like to say a massive thank you to Matt Ponting and the young people from Gallions Reach Primary School, North Beckton Primary School, Beckton Youth Zone and Bobby Moore Academy.

Newham Heritage Month 2024

We were delighted to take part in Newham Heritage Month this June – the borough wide festival showcasing the rich and diverse history of Newham.
We ran 4 guided heritage tours around Beckton Gasworks, welcoming a further 37 people on site.
The tours offered the opportunity to access the site and learn about the fascinating industrial history and meet the team to hear more about the future of the site.
You can view the history brochure which was shared on the tours here.

Community Planning Weekend Report Back

Thank you to all who attended the Beckton Gasworks Community Planning Weekend public workshops and site visit days on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 November at Art in the Docks.

You can view a summary of the feedback we heard here.

Missed the feedback sessions? We recorded the presentation and you can watch it here.

Or view the presentation material shown in the presentation here.

If you have any comments, we’d love to hear from you.

Beckton Gasworks will undergo several phases of public consultation to ensure that the project meets the needs of the local community. Consultation with a range of age and interest groups will lead the project from the beginning.

St William’s aspiration is to build on the engagement already carried out by the London Borough of Newham for the Beckton Riverside Local Plan allocation and work with the community to plan and create key principles of the first phase of development at Beckton Riverside through codesign and community planning.

We aim to work with community groups throughout Newham and the surrounding area, and to host exhibitions to ensure that the community stay up to date with the project as it develops and see how their feedback is being taken onboard.

If you want to take part or know a community group we should reach out to, please get in touch.
